Waking up in the morning is different for everyone. But in order to take on the day, you need to have a healthy evening and morning routine. If you are going to bed without listening to your body and waking up in a hurry, you won’t feel refreshed for the day.

Having a healthy evening routine is vital in order to feel good in the morning. A night routine is one of the biggest mistakes people make that jeopardizes their energy the next day.

Here are four ways to get a better night sleep:

1) Eating earlier and no late night snacking  - Late dinners can be unavoidable, but eating dinner earlier is actually much healthier. This gives your body time to digest and process food before you go to sleep. Sometimes early dinner can lead to an earlier bedtime, but it can also lead to late night snacking. Snacking late at night will not only mess up your metabolism, but it can also make your body feel less tired. Eating regularly and planning meals can often help people avoid late night snacks.

2) Caffeine-detox before going bed - This is may seem more obvious, but caffeine can be found in much of what we consume. Tea before bed is fine, but some herbal teas will have sneaky caffeine so it’s important to read the label.

3) Put down the phone (and read an old-fashioned book!) - Researchers say that a person should have at least two technology free hours before going to sleep. This actually helps your body prepare to rest since technology is considered a stimulant. If you are on your phone or answering emails right before you sleep, it can result in tossing and turning, or restless sleep.

4) Getting 8 hours - For an adult, eight hours of sleep is strongly recommended. Sometimes it’s hard to get to bed at a reasonable time, but aiming for eight hours is a healthy habit to pick up.

A healthy evening and bedtime lead to a morning full of possibilities. But, why stop in the morning? A healthy morning routine allows you to take full advantage of the day ahead of you.

Here are four practices you should add in your morning routine:

1) Meditation and Mindfulness - Even though you’ve just woken up, meditating can help prepare your mind for the rest of the day. Focusing on positivity and gratitude will give you a more optimistic and positive outlook.

2) Writing or Reading in the morning - Reading a book or writing in a journal is a great way to use your mind when you wake up in the morning.

3) Washing your face - Even if you have an extensive evening skincare routine, washing your face in the morning is one of the easiest things to do upon waking up. Cleansing your face rejuvenates your skin and pleasantly wakes you up.

4) Eating breakfast - Despite the business and craziness that comes before work, it is important to eat a healthy breakfast. Your body is a powerhouse and it needs the nutrients and protein for energy throughout the day.

Even if you try these and still need a cup of coffee when you wake up, that’s okay. These tips are for a more healthy and productive feeling every day.
